Children’s Book Drive
(collected October through May)

“More than 60% of low-income families have no books at all at home for their children.  A child can’t learn to read without books.”…

… “Books stir the senses, inspire the imagination, and spark a love of reading that can last a lifetime.  Help bring the magic of books to these children who live in a world without printed words”                resource:  firstbook.org

Please donate new or gently loved children’s books (infants – high school).
All donations will be distributed to low-income children.
Your contribution may be a child’s first owned book!

Children’s Pajama Drive
(collected in late fall)

Scholastic Book Clubs and the nonprofit Pajama Program have joined forces to sponsor The Great Bedtime Story Pajama Drive.  The mission of this drive is to provide 25,000 children in need of brand-new pajamas and books.  These are children who live in group homes, shelters, foster care, and orphanages.

Guidelines for the pajamas:

  • pajamas must be brand-new
  • pajamas in all sizes are needed
  • pajamas must be in complete sets or nightgowns
  • pajamas must be manufactured as pajamas–this ensures that they are flame-retardant and safe.

Thank you for helping us share the gift of a good night’s sleep and a sweet bedtime story.

The Mitten Tree
Mittens are collected for the needy through the month of January.

Soap for Hope
(collected in March)
Soap for hope is a charity drive that consists of collecting bars of soap, washcloths, and zip lock bags.
These items, once collected, are given to the Haitian Health Foundation (HHF) and are then sent to Haiti.Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere and the third hungriest in the world. Normal life expectancy is 49 years.  Fifty percent of all children die before the age of five.

Soap cost a day’s pay in Haiti so it is a luxury. As an incentive for mothers to bring their children in to get vaccinated the HHF gives the family a bar of soap.
Giving away a bar of soap encourages personal hygiene and getting vaccinations. Obviously, cleanliness and getting immunizations are among the first steps to preventing the spread of disease – and saving a child’s life.
